Falls Creek To Hotham in a day

Want to make the Falls to Hotham crossing but don’t have much time and difficulty to arrange a transfer back to your car?

With Falls Creek Guides we provide a guide to pace and navigate the Cobungra Valley that exists between Falls Creek and Mt Hotham, a packed lunch, morning tea/coffee, transfer, back packs and local knowledge to fully support your trekking day.

Trip Notes:

The crossing is a 23km hike that requires a strong stamina and hiking experience. The 700 m vertical climb up from Dibbin’s Hut is quite steep and climbs over a distance of 4.5 km. The attraction to this trek is the iconic view of Feathertop, rugged bush trails, open plains that are frequented by native wild life, brumbies and the challenge of making the trek in a day with support of Falls Creek Guides and services.

Essential Items:

Sunscreen, warm hat, sun hat, gloves, water proof jacket, good hiking shoes, change of socks & shirt, filled 1.5 lt water bottle.

Included:

Lunch, Pack, morning tea/coffee, guide and transfer back to Falls Creek.

Group Size:

Minimum group charge is 4 people with maximum 6 people.

Tour Itinerary

7.00am Meet Pretty Valley Lodge shuttle to Pretty Valley Pondage

7.30am Depart Pretty Valley Pondage to start Alpine Crossing for pole 333

9.00am Arrive pole 333 and have a morning tea supplied by Falls Creek Guides

9.30am Depart pole 333 and head to Cobungra Gap

10.15 am Reach Cobungra Gap and descend to Dibbin’s Hut

12.00 pm Arrive for lunch in the secluded Dibbin’s Hut

1.00pm Depart to ascend Swindlers Spur to Derrick’s Hut

2.30pm Arrive Derrick’s Hut

4.00pm Arrive Mt Hotham ski resort – Heavenly Valley snow making area

4.15pm Depart on comfortable shuttle to return to Pretty Valley Lodge, Falls Creek.

6.30pm Arrive back at Pretty Valley lodge, Falls Creek alpine village.

Macca’s expertise is a must for this hike. He provides excellent local insight throughout the hike and ensures to cater to the abilities of all his team members. The wide open plains and bush tracks flourish with native flora and fauna. This hike is a beautiful way to take in some of the alpine regions most iconic views.

Macca is an excellent guide, so insightful of the local area and history and excellent at spotting brumbies up on the high plains! The hike provides beautiful views of the surrounding valleys and mountains , with some picture perfect spots to stop for lunch. Macca caters to everyone’s abilities and remains relaxed and enthusiastic throughout the steeper inclines of the hike, a great motivator!

Our Falls Creek to Hotham walk was amazing, Macca was very insightful on local knowledge and took us to see the Brumbies.
Dougie picked us up from Hotham and drive us back to Falls. Dougie was also amazing and offered a great experience.
It was a fantastic day our whole group really really enjoyed it. Thank you Macca!!!
