Five days Trekking

This is five day overnight is both rugged with comfort, as although we carry our camping supplies the equipment and added food drops make the five days one of great achievement and worth. Walk through the pristine high country embracing the carefully selected tour’s camp sites; such as, Cope saddle and the remerniciance of the catte huts such as Roper’s, Edmonson’s, Fitzgerald’s,Tawonga Huts and Johnson’s.

The trek can be made harder or easier with options to hike further once reaching camp without the burden of a heavy pack. Such adventures down Duane Spur is one that springs to mind and is more readily travelled in the high country. The evening by the fire when appropriate and cryovaced food supplies ensures a warm dinner every night and a hardy brekfast of oat and eggs make an essential part of the days success.

For those wishing to explore the high country or train for a larger overseas or domestic hike this five day tour is the choice for you.

What you will need

Attire suitable for potential harsh conditions, wool and layers are the best, include wind and waterproof jacket and pants.

Warm Hat, light gloves and sun hatSunglasses

60 to 70 Lt Hiking pack

Toilet paper and basic daily body cleaning needs

Four pairs of socks.

Thermals and under garments

Camp shoes like thongs or light shoe

The trekking pack will need to be 60 to 70 Lts

Pack Weight will be between 9 and 16 Kilos

High level of fitness is required

We will be able to have a fire on the night providing no total fire bans. Otherwise cooking can be done inside the hut with gas cookers.

We can go over the final food selection closer to the time.

Hiking three to four weeks up and down stairs or steep slope with a 10 kilo pack before this trek is recommended

Description

Itinerary:

Day One: Arrival

Arrival Falls Creek from 3.00pm.
Evening dinner at a local’s favorite restaurant for briefing and gear check.

Day Two: Edmonson’s and Mount Nelse 8 km total

9.00am: Transfer to Heathy Spur for Edmonson’ Hut Hike and Sunset on Mt Nelse.
11.30am: Arrive at Edmonson’s Hut 1735 m camp site nicely nestled amongst the snow gums.
12.00pm: Lunch at Edmonson’s Hut while taking in the dramatic views of the Kiewa valley and Mount Buffalo.
1.00pm: Hike to Summit Mount Nelse and explore Marms point.
3.00pm: Return to Edmonson’s Hut and prepare the camp. site for the evenning meal.
5.30pm: Evening dinner at Edmonson’s Hut.

Day Three: Edmonson’s to Ropers Hut and Duane’s Spur 8 – 15 km Total

9.00am: Breakfast of warm porridge and break camp.Lunch at the Ropers Hut Camp Site.
10.00am: Depart for Ropers Hut and explore the no name and Spion Kopje.
12.00pm: Arrive at Ropers Hut and set up camp and ready Lunch.
1.00pm: With a light pack descend Duanes Spur for a spectacular desente and view of Mount Bogong 1979 m.
4.00pm: Return to the camp site for a good evening of the days yarns.
6.00pm: Enjoy dinner by the camp side fire or in the warmth of Ropers Hut.

Day Four: Ropers Hut to Cope Hut 22 km Total (Hike and Transfer included)

9.00am: Breakfast at Roper’s Hut.
10.00am: Depart to Fitzgerald’s Hut.
12.00pm: Arrive Fitzgerald’s Hut for Lunch and relax in wide grasslands of this area.
1.00pm: Depart to East Langfords aquaduct for transfer and supply pick up.
3.00pm: Drive to Cope Saddle.
4.00pm: Set up camp at Cope Hut and enjoy the sweeping views towards NSW and Eastern Victoria.
6.00pm: Dinner in the 1929 Tourism based Cope Hut.

Day Five: Cope Saddle hut to Tawonga Huts 9 to 12 km Hike (Option of Mount Jaithmanthang)

9.00am:Breakfast at the ski tourism hut of Cope Saddle 1800 m.
10.00am: Depart for Tawonga Huts camp site.
12.00pm: Arrive Tawonga Huts for lunch and to set up camp.
1.00pm: Explore the campsite or take the afternoon optoin of the rugged trail to summit Mt Jaithmanthang.
4.00pm: Return to camp to embrace the sunset.
6.00pm: Evening at Tawonga Huts overlooking the Kiewa Valley.

Day Six: Tawonga Huts Mount Fainter and return to Pretty Valley Pondage. 15 Km

8.00am: Breakfast at the camp site.
9.00am: Hike to Mt Fainter to take in spectacular views of Spoin Kopje, Mt Bogong and Mount Feathertop.
11.00am: Return from Mount Fainter to the Tawonga Huts camp to pack down.
1.00pm: Lunch and pack down at Tawonga huts before last 4km back to Pretty Valley pondage.
3.30pm: Reach Pretty Valley pondage for refreshments and transfers back to Falls Creek.
5.00pm: Farewell drinks at Pretty Valley Lodge.
