Trip Itinerary

1. Group Meeting & Transfer

📍 Meeting Point: Mountain Creek Campground (Morning)

• Welcome & Trip Briefing – Our expert guides provide a detailed overview of the hike, including track conditions, weather expectations, and key landmarks.
• Final Gear Check – We ensure all hikers are well-prepared with the right clothing, food, water, and safety essentials.
• 4WD Transfer – Avoid the extra fire road walk! Our 4WD transport takes us directly to the Eskdale Spur trailhead, maximizing our time in the mountains.

2. Guided Ascent to Mt Bogong via Eskdale Spur

🚶 Distance: ~6 km to summit (~1,300m elevation gain)
⏳ Time: 3.5–5 hours ascent
🏔 Terrain: A well-defined but steep trail through eucalypt forests, snow gum woodlands, and exposed alpine ridgelines.

Key Landmarks & Expert Insights

🌲 Eskdale Spur Trailhead (Start of Hike) – Our adventure begins as we ascend through towering eucalypt forests, learning about the region’s ecology, wildlife, and high-country heritage.

🏡 Michell Hut (~1,470m, Midpoint) – A historic alpine refuge and emergency shelter. Our guides will share the story behind Bogong’s huts and their role in mountain survival.

🏔 Final Push to the Summit – Exiting the tree line, we navigate an exposed ridgeline with breathtaking views, where our guides explain the geology and significance of this alpine environment.

3. Summit Experience: The Roof of Victoria

🥾 Mt Bogong Summit (1,986m) – The highest point in Victoria, marked by a stone cairn and summit pole.

🌄 Panoramic Views – Enjoy 360-degree vistas of the Victorian Alps, including Mt Feathertop, the Bogong High Plains, and the distant Main Range in NSW.

🥪 Lunch & Rest – Take a well-earned break before beginning our descent.

4. Guided Descent via Eskdale Spur

🚶 Distance: ~6 km descent
⏳ Time: 2.5–3.5 hours

• A careful descent through steep sections and loose ground—our guides provide expert advice on downhill technique to ease the impact on knees and ankles.
• Rest stop at Michell Hut before completing the descent.

5. 4WD Pickup & Return to Mountain Creek Campground

🚙 Our 4WD transport will be waiting at the Eskdale Spur trailhead to take us back to Mountain Creek Campground, where we’ll wrap up with a debrief and reflections on the day’s adventure.
